Why jury trial system is necessary in Bangladesh?

Jury plays a vital role in the criminal justice system in many countries of the world. Trial by jury is important in order to preserve individual freedom. The jury system plays a vital role in democracy and it also gives the lay persons a voice in the justice system. I think jury trial is necessary in BANGLADESH, many developed countries already adopted jury trial in there legal system.

The jury trials is important for the following purposes-

1. To reinforce the democratic legitimacy of the judicial process.
2. To enhance the transparency and credibility of the judiciary.

The introduction of jury trials will allow lay persons to directly contribute to core judicial decision-making and participate in the implementation of justice, as well as getting society involved in fighting crime.It will build confidence among the population on the supremacy of law and the judicial system. Jury trials will certainly change fundamental aspects of criminal trials by meaningful participation of the lay person in judicial decision-making. Now jury trial is considered as a tool for decreasing corruption in judiciary, and ensuring independence of judicial system.

To conclude I want to say that the idea of Jury Trial introduction is not a sole and unique solution to the problems that exist in the judiciary. It is rather to be an addition to the reforms the judicial system.The institution of Jury Trial proved to be efficient through out history and the experience of countries such as Brazil, Japan or Russia and Georgian.
